Can you say overreaction????
My son and daughter are both 10 years old. My husband and I have tried to give them a little more freedom. Since we live in a Subdivision out in the country and our house backs up to a huge field and than a forrest with a creek. The kids love going out back with their friends to play and let off some steam.
All of Devins friends have Air Soft Guns and the only place they can shoot them is out back in the fields wear we also have a ton of huge rocks to hide behind. So 3 boys including Devin decided to go outback and have a air soft gun fight.
Mandy and one of the other boys sisters decided to go out back to watch the boys. They brought along another girl. She was aware of where they were going. About 15 minutes into the girl watching the boys one of the bullets rickashade of a rock and hit the girl on her leg. She went running home. My daughter called me and told me that one of the bullets hit the girl and that she was on her way home.
Then Mandy call’s me back and says that the big sister and the girl where on their way back to them. I looked out the window and sure enough both where out on a mission. I decided that it was time to also step in. I walked out back and started walking towards to rocks. I was just going to supervise and keep things calm.
BOY was I mistaken there was nothing to keep calm. I start walking over and two police officers are coming up behind me heading into the same direction and then an ambulance. What in the world is going on??? They said she was hit in the leg…it was an air soft gun. What is going on??? These are all things running through my mind.
All the kids are scared I am trying to keep them calm one of the kids grandmother came out also for support. Come to find out the girl was shot in the leg and it was welted. That was it…the boys were told that it could have been deemed an assault, even if it wasn’t aimed at her. I just couldn’t believe that 911 was called for this and how this was blown out of proportion. WOW

Wow. You have to be so careful these days. Parents shelter their kids too much. Not that I’m in complete agreement with the use of any kind of gun…
I hear ya, though- the world is a very different place then the one we grew up in!
Honestly I think people like that are just stupid. I mean come on it’s a bump on the leg. Wonder if she takes her child to the hospital ever time her child gets a scratch.
